Walmart made many plans and promises slum areas in United States to open its outlets there but these promises could not be fulfilled due to the retailer further plans to provide wage raises to its workers. The locals of the poor areas are not very happy and are now criticizing.
Walmart Stores Inc. promised to open two stores in Southeast Washington, which did not go as planned. Now, the locals and critics are mocking the business for making such fake promises in the first place. The Mayor regrets for not making the retailer sign an agreement or contract that would have condemned it from not making this unfortunate decision now. The contract would have forbidden the business from turning away from its decision of opening the stores and saved the poor areas from much trouble.
Walmart Stores planned to open in Skyland Town Center and the other in Capital Gateway Marketplace situated at East Capitol Street. When the company announced of not opening the stores, the city officials were shocked and unhappy about the announcement. The city said it worked hard to clear the areas where the stores were to open, which wasted millions of dollar and now evidently all ended in vain. These locals – from less fortunate cities – and officials are furious over the company’s decision, as it has cost them money and time.
However, Walmart has been facing a certain defeat, as it has announced to close many of its existing stores to save costs that it has to spend now on employee wages. Clearly not everyone lost the battle – the workers of the company have been awarded with more pay and even further benefits, such as paid leaves.
City officials are conducting a thorough research as to whether they have the rights to legally insist Walmart Wholesale to reconsider its decision of not opening the stores.
