Tony Fadell defends himself during the Google TGIF meeting. The Chief Executive Officer of Google Nest, Mr. Tony Fadell has finally voiced his opinion on the home automation company operational under Alphabet Inc. At the company’s internal meeting, Mr. Fadell was defending the company’s product offerings, his own behavior as well as the work environment.
The acquisition of Nest was done in $3.2 billion in 2013 and has been under the limelight since then. Since the past couple of months, news regarding the poor work environment, employee dissatisfaction, and staggering performance of this segment have surfaced in the fraternity.
During the Google TGIF meeting, the CEO addressed his inmates. Generally Mr. Fadell never attends such meetings. Re/Code, a tech news site was successful in obtaining a transcript of the discussion between Google employees and Fadell.
Mr. Fadell states that he is well aware of the fact that Nest is dealing some issues but does not agree with the recent articles that portray him and the work environment at Nest as negative. According to him all the articles that are derogatory towards the culture and work environment at Nest are false.
He also talked about the performance of Nest’s business where he refuted the reports that claim that a slowdown is being observed in the production of new devices. With each year passing by, the sales trajectory has improved where most of its products have banged a four star rating on Amazon. He also stated that the company was on the course of superseding its sales estimates for the first quarter of the fiscal year of 2016. In the coming week, GOOG will reveal its earnings for the first quarter of 2016.
When it comes to the poor work environment at Nest that has been the talk of the town since quite some time, Mr. Fadell defended himself by stating that nobody is perfect irrespective of that the search engine giant has put in a lot of effort since its acquisition to embrace a turnaround. Moreover, he also has immense respect for the present and former employees at Nest, Alphabet and Google.
Ironically, the opinions held by the Nest employees seem to be contrary to the claims made by Fadell. As per some reports, it is already evident that the workers have to deal with complex situations at Nest due to product deadlines. To add to Fadell’s misery, two senior employees at Nest, Scott Mullins, the Senior Engineering Manager and Shinge Honjo, Director of Hardware Design and Engineering have bid farewell to the company.
The company is striving hard to make its image better and retain its employees through stock vesting but a few of them are almost embracing the end of the vest schedules. They might just cash the shares out and then bid farewell to the company. Moreover, the bad name associated to Google Nest might make it a difficult task for Fadell to poach new talent. Over the past couple of months, analysts have been calling Nest as a fail investment by Google with a shady work environment.
