Cablevision has dropped the lawsuit against Verizon to combine claims.
The rivalry between Cablevision Corporation and Verizon dates back to a very long time. Both companies have been filing lawsuits against each other lately. It is believed that the cable and satellite company, finally thought of something else than taking Verizon to court. Reuters stated that the company has decided to drop the lawsuit against its rival, as it thought to combine the cases.
It is said that the cable company will be combining the case with ‘another between the rival companies’ in the coming times. The sources suggest that the company has voluntarily dropped the case, which it filed a month ago, in the Manhattan federal court.
The case has been dropped without any prejudgment or prejudice, which indicates that Cablevision Corp. has all rights with itself to pursue its claims against the communications giant some other time if it wants. According to the statement company released on Thursday, it said, “it was merely in the process of being transferred to the same court that is already hearing our prior false advertising lawsuit against Verizon.”
Prior to this, the satellite giant previously filed a lawsuit in January in the federal court in Central Islip, New York. In that lawsuit, it accused the rival of doing false advertisements of its products and services. In response, the rival claimed that its Wi-Fi service is the fastest available in the region or nation. However, the cable company did not see eye to eye to the claim.
Reuters reports, “The lawsuit in Manhattan had sought a court order declaring as truthful a Cablevision commercial claiming Verizon's FiOS service does not only use fiber optic cable. The Manhattan lawsuit came after Verizon in April launched a proceeding before the Better Business Bureaus' National Advertising Division challenging the commercial, which claims Verizon's ‘100% fiber optics’ service actually uses regular cable in the home.“
This has been quite a roller coaster ride for both companies, where one files a lawsuit against the other on one day and the other comes with a reply and files a law suit in its response. This has been going on since a few months now. Cablevision went quite far with the false advertisement of the fastest Wi-Fi available but as it sought to dismiss the case without any prejudice to combine claims, it will be exciting to see what will be the next steps of the cable and satellite company.
Verizon was not content with the latest accusations from Cablevision.
